![]() About a half-hour drive from Karatu there is the starting point for the well-known walk into the Ngorongoro Forest to the magic “Elephant’s Cave” which is located right atop of a lovely waterfall. Elephants and buffalos frequently visit the cave to lick the mineral soil. A long time ago harsh weather conditions and steadily flowing water have exposed this natural mineral deposit that now draws animals from miles away to feed those essentially needed nutrients. The scenic trail covers nearly 2.5 kilometers of hiking and rewards with stunning views on the surrounding Ngorongoro Highlands. Various wildlife and bird sightings right on the way are common. The trail is accessible all year round. |
