Reach Kilimanjaro summit via the most popular route which is the right choice for physically fit people with some climbing experience.

The Machame route, also known as the Whisky Route is one of the most scenic and recommended routes on Kilimanjaro. This popular route with paths through magnificent forests to gain a ridge leading through the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. It then traverses beneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Ice fields to join the Barafu Route to the summit. Because it can be done over longer periods and the incline is more manageable it has a much higher success rate of summit.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival from Arusha or Moshi

After breakfast pick up at your hotel — drive to Machame gate — start your hike through lush rainforest — lunch picnic break — ascend to Machame camp at 9,350 ft (2.850 m) — dinner at camp

Overnight at Machame Camp

Day 2: Shira Hut

Breakfast at Machame Camp — pass heather and open moorlands sparsly covered with trees — lunch picnic break — cross a steep ridge in order to reach Shira hut at 12,355 ft (3.766 m) — dinner at hut

Day 3: Barranco Camp

Breakfast at Shira Hut — return eastwards and continue ascending through the dry landscape to the Lava Tower Site on about 15,000 ft (4.600 m) — lunch picnic break — descend to Barranco valley and Barranco Camp 12,700 ft (3.900 m) — dinner at acmp

Overnight at Barranco Camp

Day 4: Barafu Camp

Breakfast at Barranco Camp — ascent Barranco Wall and cross Karanga Valley — lunch picnic break — turn north to reach Barafu Camp at 15,239 ft (4.645 m) — dinner at camp

Day 5: Kilimanjaro Summit

Early morning breakfast at Barafu Camp — climb up to the rim to reach Stella Point at 18,848 ft (5.745 m) before sunrise — continue to Uhuru Peak at 19,340 ft (5.895 m) — lunch picnic break at the summit — descent to Gillman´s Point and further to Mweka Hut — dinner at hut

Overnight at Mweka Camp

Day 6: Departure from Arusha or Moshi

Breakfast at hut — descend to Mweka Gate at 5,423 feet (1.653 m) — lunch picnic break — transfer from the gate to your accomodation
