Overview
This 9-day, 8-night safari adventure begins and ends in Arusha, offering an unforgettable journey through Tanzania’s most renowned wildlife destinations. From vast savannahs to breathtaking crater landscapes, you’ll experience the very best of Tanzania’s natural beauty and diverse ecosystems.
Day 1: Arrival - Arusha
It’s time to begin your safari. Welcome to Tanzania! After we greet you and provide you with the trip briefing, we’ll take you out to help you discover why so many people think Tanzania is the best place in Africa to go on safari.
Arusha is an important part of your northern Tanzanian safari and not just because of its position as a gateway to the safari parks of the country’s north. With its dynamic street life and markets, fascinating museums and enticing street food, it’s an exciting city that deserves exploring.
Accommodation: Gran Melia Arusha
Day 2: Arusha National Park
You never forget your first view of Arusha National Park, with Mt Meru – one of the Rift Valley’s most beautiful mountains – rising above it. Once you get to know it a little better, you’ll also enjoy the wildlife – giraffe, zebra, buffalo and birdlife, with sightings of elephant and hippo possible too. There’s also Ngurdoto Crater, which they sometimes call ‘Little Ngorongoro’, such is its resemblance to the world-famous crater to the west. Scenery being the main attraction is a nice alternative to the more wildlife-focused parks elsewhere.
Accommodation: Gran Melia Arusha
Days 3: Tarangire National Park
Everything seems to be cast on a grander scale in Tarangire National Park, from the giant baobab trees that bring such personality to the park’s landscapes to the massive elephants for which the park is famous. Although a popular place to visit for travelers on safari through northern Tanzania, Tarangire rarely feels crowded, and that becomes even more true the further south you go in the park. Other wildlife to look forward to here includes big cats, zebra, hippo, buffalo, wildebeest and more. If you’re really lucky, you might spy the park’s transient population of African wild dog.
Accommodation: Escarpment Luxury Lodge
Days 4: Lake Manyara National Park
You’re going to love Lake Manyara National Park because it promises experiences you just can’t get elsewhere. For example, this is one of the most compact parks in Tanzania’s north: the park consists of a narrow strip of forest shadowed by vast Lake Manyara on one side and the cliffs of the Rift Valley escarpment on the other. The park is known for its large elephant and baboon populations, and part of the excitement of visiting here is never quite knowing when you’re going to come face-to-face with an elephant. And then there are the tree-climbing lions for which the park is famous: this is one of very few places in Africa where lions routinely climb (and spend much of their time up in) trees.
Accommodation: Escarpment Luxury Lodge
Day 5, 6 & 7: Central Serengeti National Park
When you explore the Central Serengeti, you’re enjoying one of the best wildlife destinations in northern Tanzania. Here you’ll find the big populations of wildlife for which the Serengeti is famous. You’ll also have a good chance of seeing big cats. This area has plenty of northern Tanzania’s iconic acacia trees, as well as seemingly endless Serengeti horizons.
Accommodation: Melia Serengeti Lodge
Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater
You never forget the first time you see Ngorongoro Crater from above. Looking out from the rim of this extraordinary volcanic crater is like gazing down upon a lost world of wildlife and astonishing beauty. The drive down into the crater will be just as special, taking you
down onto the crater floor where nature rules and no human being may pass the night. You’ll spend the best part of a day exploring this remarkable place, seeing its lions, hyenas, black rhinos, elephants, flamingos and so much more. And when it comes time to leave, you’ll keep looking back over your shoulder trying to hold these experiences in your memory.
Day 9: Final Day with us
This is when your safari will finally come to an end. We hope that you’ll return home with so many memories of everything that you’ve seen and enjoyed. We look forward to the day when you come with us again on safari.
