Mount Meru
Often overshadowed by its mighty neighbor, Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru (4,566 m / 14,980 ft) is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and one of Africa’s most rewarding trekking destinations. Located inside Arusha National Park, just 70 km from Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru offers an unforgettable hiking experience that combines dramatic volcanic landscapes, rich wildlife encounters, and breathtaking panoramic views.
For adventurers seeking a less crowded, equally rewarding alternative to Kilimanjaro—or for those wanting to acclimatize before attempting Africa’s tallest peak—Mount Meru is a perfect choice.
Unlike Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru has one main trail to the summit: the Momella Route. The trek typically takes 3–4 days, depending on pace and acclimatization needs.
